Ralink Contribution to Exciting New Peer-Connecting Protocol Includes Design Support and Test Bed Device Inclusion

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ralink Technology Corporation (TAIEX:3534) (Ralink), a leading developer of high performance wired and wireless networking solutions, today expressed strong support for the introduction of the Wi-Fi Alliance’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct™ program. Anticipated as a major leap forward in Wi-Fi capability, Wi-Fi Direct can create connections between Wi-Fi devices anywhere, at any time, with or without a connection to a traditional Wi-Fi network. As an early contributor and driving force behind the program, Ralink’s RT3592 dual band 2T2R PCIe solution was included in the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct™ test bed as the benchmark for high performance Wi-Fi.

“We congratulate Ralink on achieving selection to the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi Direct™ test bed,” said Wi-Fi Alliance CEO Edgar Figueroa. “Ralink’s participation in the development of this program has been instrumental in the achievement of an industry-wide certification for this revolutionary new Wi-Fi technology.”

Ralink’s role in developing the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi DirectTM program includes early involvement in proposing fundamental elements of the underlying protocol, driving interoperability testing, and contributing proposals and insight for many of the optional modes that make the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi DirectTM program suitable for next generation wireless peer-to-peer applications. From the first 1x1 802.11n single chip for portable PCs, to the first 2x2 dual band single chip solution with industry leading performance for wirelessly connected TV applications, to the industry’s first 3x3 dual band single chips with beam forming technology, Ralink has led in many areas of technical innovation considered crucial to driving the market towards the new Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi DirectTM program.

Further testimony to the preeminence of Ralink’s solutions is the prominent inclusion of Ralink devices in the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Wi-Fi DirectTM interoperability test bed. Ralink’s RT3592 dual band 2T2R PCIe solution was selected for its unparalleled combination of performance, size, efficiency, and power consumption as the benchmark leader for a range of interoperability tests.

“The ability of Wi-Fi devices to connect to one another without joining a traditional home, office, or hotspot network exponentially increases the value of Wi-Fi for the new generation of hyper-connected devices,” said Paul Lin, General Manager of Wireless Business Unit at Ralink Technology Corporation. “Ralink’s industry leadership in size, power consumption, integration and performance can now bring the powerful new capabilities of Wi-Fi Direct to the widest possible range of electronic devices.”
