Nordson EFD (Nasdaq: NDSN) has won the 2010 SMT Vision Award for its UltimusTM V High-precision Dispenser, which improves productivity in electronics and other critical assembly processes.
SMT Vision Awards honor products and technologies that shaped the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manufacturing industry over the past year. Products are judged on innovation, cost-effectiveness, speed/throughput improvements, quality, ease of use, and environmental responsibility.
The global consumer electronics market is estimated at $260.7 billion by 2012, an increase of 30.6% since 2007. As electronics become smaller and more complex, manufacturers need new ways to apply the adhesives and other fluids used to assemble them, with greater precision and faster speed. Keeping the amount of fluid applied consistent as it gets thicker or thinner, or the volume in the reservoir decreases, can be critical to maintaining productivity and quality. To compensate for changing fluid volumes, the patent-pending Optimeter automatically adjusts airflow to maintain uniform deposit size.
