SHANGHAI & NEW YORK--()--International Dispensing Corporation (IDC; IDND) and The Döhler Group are proud to announce that they have won a Marking Award, a global packaging competition sponsored by the Food & Beverage Innovation Forum (FBIF) in Shanghai.Out of well over a hundred package design entries originally submitted from all over the world – from major corporations and prominent designers – Marking Awards were granted in six categories: Integrity, Design, Practicality, Relevancy, Creativity, and Tech Content.

Döhler’s bag-in-box (BIB) package fitted with IDC’s The Answer® aseptic tap won the Marking Award for Highest Mark in Practicality.

The Marking Award brochure described the Döhler-IDC entry as:

“true technology breakthrough and innovation”

and it cited The Answer® as:

“the world’s only aseptic tap [which] provides unique shelf-life extension even after starting dispensing [and] brings food safety enhancements and sustainability benefits that traditional formats cannot.”

Döhler’s BIB package with The Answer® tap, which offers a line of premium not-from-concentrate (NFC) juices, has been commercial in China for 18 months. It has won kudos from foodservice operators and consumers alike.

The Food & Beverage Innovation Forum (FBIF), held annually in Shanghai, is a global summit of senior executives and creative heads from the World’s Top 100 food & beverage companies. Its purpose is to identify emerging megatrends in food packaging, quality, branding, and marketing, and to discuss the most successful business cases and advanced technologies worldwide. By assembling the industry’s foremost leaders and visionaries, FBIF aims to inject vigor into the food & beverage global community, to power the future by building an ecosystem of innovation and wisdom.

Based in Shanghai, the FBIF is global in scope. Companies attending, and in some cases addressing, this year’s conference included Coca-Cola, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Alibaba, Mondalez, Tetra Pak, The Yili Group, Mengniu, Danone, Unilever, Master Kong, McDonald’s, Cargill, Anheuser Busch InBev, Hershey’s, Fonterra, and Starbucks, among many others – over 1300 attendees in all, the largest FBIF event ever.

Highlighting the three-day conference was The Marking Award ceremony. An internationally diverse 23-person jury (comprised of creative specialists from Nestlé, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Tetra Pak, Wrigley, and Mars, as well as a collection of illustrious design firms and artists) was charged with the task of judging. Starting in February 2017, the jury began the process of evaluating each of the entries for design, creativity, and practicality. The jury narrowed the field to 40 deserving finalists entering last week’s Food & Beverage Innovation Forum to compete for the six Marking Awards.

Joining Tetra Pak, Coca-Cola, Mengniu, and the other category honorees on the winners’ podium were President of Döhler Asia Pacific Roman Kupper, IDC Chairman Greg Abbott, and IDC Director Li Xin.

“As a global producer and marketer of technology-based ingredients and ingredient systems, we are focusing on Bringing New Ideas to Life,” said Roman Kupper, President of Döhler Asia Pacific.

“The Answer® from IDC is more than an idea; it is a commitment to provide fresh, healthy, and safe products during the complete consumption period. We are happy to see that the Food and Beverage Industry understands the great potential of The Answer®, and Döhler is committed to providing the best ingredient solutions in order to deliver an unmatched consumer experience,” Mr. Kupper added.

“It is an honor to be conferred world-class status by such an esteemed panel,” said IDC Chairman Greg Abbott. “We were competing against many dazzling designs and brilliant concepts, some from leading multinational corporations. The fact that our innovation is so impactful and changing lives certainly worked in our favor. We are deeply honored.”

Mr. Abbott added, “We are indebted to Döhler for its courage and vision in running with our technology. It is a partnership we cherish; one that we fully expect to flourish both in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world as more end users see the compelling benefits we offer.”
