Afton Chemical Corporation - market leader in diesel performance additives, today announced the launch of its next generation detergent technology - Greenclean™

RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global Business Manager Diesel, Sean Spencer explained that “Afton have specifically developed Greenclean™ to meet the demands of today’s diesel consumers: a sustainable reduction in emissions without having to compromise driver operability.

“Our additive development is based on a combination of our understanding of market drivers, the fundamentals of injector technology and the diesel fuel. It is through knowing how these factors work together that we are able to deliver the most advanced solutions to our customers.”

John Bennett, Technical Manager Performance Additives confirms this: “The common rail Direct Injection (DI) engines, which represent more than 75% of passengers cars, operate at optimum performance with zero levels of injector coking.

“The multi-hole injectors used in DI that deliver the fuel have significantly smaller nozzle holes than the old Indirect Injection (IDI) technology. So the slightest build-up in deposits will result in disrupted fuel flow and diminished vehicle performance – which will be detected by the driver on the road. Therefore zero power loss in the DI is the key target for anyone selling fuels today.”

The recognised performance test for power loss in the DI engine is the DW-10 (full details can be found in the Afton fact sheet).

Sean Spencer continuedAfton recognises that today’s car parc is a mixed technology fleet comprising both DI and IDI technologies. GreencleanTM ensures that the excellent protection provided today by traditional detergent technology to the IDI engine is maintained, providing the fuel marketer with the ideal solution for the dynamic and rapidly changing environment they are working in.”

Therefore Greenclean™ detergent technology delivers optimal performance in both DW-10 and XUD-9 engine tests and will provide:

  • Zero power loss at treat-rates up to 4-5 times less than traditional detergent technology
  • On-design engine performance for today’s technology
  • Emission control
  • Optimal driving experience
