SHANGHAI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Over 150 business and government leaders from Asia, the United States, Latin America and Europe attended last week’s LexisNexis 4th Annual Conference on Dispute Avoidance and Resolution sponsored for the third consecutive year by Diaz Reus & Targ, LLP, at the Swissotel Grand Shanghai.

Topics critical to international business success such as managing disputes effectively, achieving better risk control, and finding creative solutions to cross-border dispute resolution were covered during the two-day conference.

According to conference chair Carlos F. Gonzalez., a partner at Diaz Reus, the conference’s Exclusive Platinum Sponsor, the event was a complete success. “We were very pleased with the attendance this year and the strong support we received from both the public and private sector,” said Gonzalez. “The importance of dispute avoidance and resolution has never been more important to China as it expands its presence globally.” As evidence, the conference included dozens of senior in-house counsel from among the world’s most recognized corporations. Explained Gonzalez, “The current economic climate is changing the way in-house lawyers deal with outside counsel. Outside law firms must respond to this changing environment by continuing to offer top-flight representation in a cost-effective way.”

Gonzalez focused his presentation on drafting effective arbitration agreements and managing international legal disputes. Other speakers at the conference were Ulf Franke, Secretary General of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce who spoke about the evolving role of international arbitration; and Minn Naing Oo, CEO & registrar of Singapore International Arbitration Centre who discussed the most recent developments at the SIAC and offered his views on the current state of institutional arbitration of international business disputes. Other speakers included senior officials from the Supreme Court of PRC, adviser panel of China Anti-Monopoly Legislation Committee and the International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
