TranSwitch’s New HDplay Transceivers, Unveiled at the 2013 International CES, Represent the Industry’s Only Solutions to Provide HDMI, DisplayPort, and MHL Connectivity in a Single IC

2013 International CES

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions in the rapidly growing consumer electronics and telecommunications markets, today announced new HDplay™ products with MHL™ capability to support mobile device connectivity for HDTVs and pico projectors. MHL is a video interface standard that is optimized for smartphones, tablets, and other portable consumer electronics. The Company’s new HDplay transceivers represent the industry’s first and only single-IC solutions offering HDMI®, DisplayPort™, and MHL connectivity in support of new market trends for HDTVs and pico projectors.

A recent report by DisplaySearch projects that the global HDTV market will grow from 245 million units in 2012 to over 275 million units in 2016. Pico projectors represent a new generation of devices designed to project video content onto a wall or screen. According to a recent report by Pacific Media Associates, the emerging pico projector market is expected to grow from 3 million units in 2011 to 58 million units in 2015. Many HDTVs and pico projectors are expected to add MHL video interface, which is optimized for mobile devices, in addition to HDMI and DisplayPort. According to the MHL Consortium, there are over 100 global licensees of the standard, including TranSwitch, which is helping to drive adoption of MHL in multimedia products.

“Working closely with leading OEMs and ODMs, TranSwitch is adding mobile connectivity support to its HDplay product portfolio to address new market trends driving the performance, cost, and functionality requirements of next-generation HDTVs and pico projectors,” said Amir Bar-Niv, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the High Speed Interconnect Business at TranSwitch. “As the industry’s only single-IC to combine HDMI, DisplayPort, and MHL connectivity standards, our new HDplay transceivers address the needs of leading customers to offer smartphone and tablet connectivity in their products, while reducing design complexity, minimizing cost, and maintaining performance up to 4K x 2K resolutions. We are very pleased to announce these solutions during the 2013 International CES, where we will continue our engagement with market leaders through scheduled meetings and demonstrations with most of the industry’s top HDTV manufacturers.”

As new HDTVs continue to adopt multiple connectivity standards, the requirements for cost-effective solutions that offer interface standard flexibility while maintaining video performance increases. Simultaneously, pico projectors continue to reduce in size and require a solution that delivers high performance connectivity, while minimizing space requirements. TranSwitch’s HDplay transceivers leverage TranSwitch’s unique MHDP™ technology to combine HDMI, DisplayPort, and MHL functionality in a single IC. This represents a compelling solution for HDTV and pico projector manufacturers to add MHL-enabled mobile connectivity to their devices by helping to reduce design complexity, cost, space requirements, and time-to-market.

TranSwitch’s new HDplay transceivers provide a single, tri-mode input port supporting HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.2, and MHL 2.0. The TXC-44151 has been optimized for DTVs, projectors, pico projectors, and converters by providing a single HDMI 1.4b output supporting resolutions up to 4K x 2K. The TXC-44155 has been optimized for pico projectors by featuring a flexible 24b LVTTL parallel output. Samples of the TXC-44151 and TXC-44155 will be available early in the second quarter of 2013.
