DTS’ Booth Will Feature Demonstrations of End-to-End Surround Sound Solutions for MPEG-DASH

IBC2012

CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DTS, Inc. (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions, today announced that it is showcasing its latest high-definition surround sound solutions that support MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) at booth 2.B50 at IBC 2012. DTS-HD® is a fully MPEG-DASH compatible surround sound codec and includes the highly efficient DTS Express™ profile, which can deliver HD-quality stereo, or surround sound, in a single 192 kbps bitstream, enabling content providers to pair the highest-quality audio possible with their content across a virtually limitless range of playback devices.

“We believe that the MPEG-DASH platform is poised to revolutionize the streaming entertainment services industry and we are excited to be part of the revolution,” said Benn Carr, vice president, corporate strategy and development of DTS, Inc. “DASH already possesses tools to unlock the limitations of today’s proprietary streaming models and with the integration of our advanced surround sound technologies on this platform, content providers will now have another tool available to them for delivering the best streaming entertainment experience possible.”

DTS is a charter member of the DASH Industry Forum, a collection of over 30 industry leading companies supporting and promoting MPEG-DASH interoperability by creating a set of guidelines for implementers to follow. Recently authorized as an ISO standard, MPEG-DASH was initially designed to serve as a universal standard for adaptive-bit-rate (ABR) delivery that integrates the best elements of existing proprietary ABR technologies.

“The MPEG-DASH specification is a significant step forward for the adaptive bit rate delivery of content to connected devices, with the promise of simplifying the fragmented landscape of delivery protocols,” said Tony Huang, Senior Product Manager at Digital Rapids. “Our support for DTS audio within the MPEG-DASH specification in our newest media transformation and workflow solutions enables the creation of immersive and seamless entertainment experiences for consumers across a broad range of devices. We’re pleased to be working with DTS to showcase a complete MPEG-DASH workflow, from content preparation to playback on consumer devices.”

  • Digital Rapids’ transcoding tool creating MPEG-DASH compatible files featuring DTS audio
  • castLabs platform independent MPEG-DASH client with support for DTS-HD decoding for unmatched surround sound performance and audio post processing for engaging headphone playback
