- Panasonic Kids School program uses sport to encourage international friendship -

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Panasonic Corporation today announced that it hosted a special rope jumping event at Park Live, the official live site of the Olympic Park on July 31 in cooperation with the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

The one-day event was held as part of the Panasonic Kids School educational programs conducted worldwide with about 460,000 children taking part annually. Panasonic holds the “Rope Jump” contest, which is a unique program in which teams consisting of at least 10 members jump a rope together continuously for three minutes. They compete for total points based on the numbers of the jumps they made and turns they took during the time.

Children from Japan and the United Kingdom participated in the special event, with two performances started at 13:15 and 17:30, to introduce and demonstrate how the Rope Jump is played on the stage. Their exciting performance captivated approximately 10,000 Olympic Games fans visiting the Live Site located in the lawn area of the riverbank in the Olympic Park. The Park Live stage is "floating" on the river and features Panasonic’s two giant LED display systems that stand back-to-back so that crowds on both sides of the river can enjoy live action. Each screen has a total display area of 133 square meters.

The children were members of the team Asahi Jumping Infinity from Asahi Elementary School in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan and St. Lawrence Leapers from St. Lawrence Church of England School in Surrey, U.K., one of the Panasonic Kids School Rope Jump participating schools. Asahi Jumping Infinity is the winner of Panasonic’s Third World Rope Jump Championship, coming out on top of the 465 teams from 11 countries including Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam. On July 30, the two teams gathered at St. Lawrence Church of England School to get to know each other and practice jump rope for the event at the Olympic Park the next day.
