RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Quintiles’ patient community website ClinicalResearch.com has won its second Web Health Award in three years for exceptional content development. The award highlights a web video which illustrates the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease and the importance of participating in clinical research.

The Web Health Awards recognize high-quality digital health resources for consumers and health professionals. The awards program is organized by the Health Information Resource Center, a clearinghouse for professionals working in consumer health fields.

Featured in the award winning Quintiles video are Alzheimer’s patient Jacqueline Cole and her husband Walter. In the video, the Coles discuss Jacqueline’s condition and why they believe their participation in clinical trials is so important. “We’ve been involved in four clinical trials,” Walter explains. “We certainly do not regret any of the time we spent doing this. One day, somebody is going to come up with the answer.

“The only way they’re going to do it is through studies, and the only people they can study are those that have the disease,” he concludes.

Launched in 2009, ClinicalResearch.com serves as an information resource for patients with the mission of increasing awareness, understanding and participation in clinical research. The site includes a comprehensive database of ongoing clinical trials, searchable by both condition and geography, helping users locate clinical trials that may benefit them or a family member.

When users register with ClinicalResearch.com, they elect to be notified about local clinical trials. Further, they can also elect to receive regular email newsletters about specific conditions such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer and others.

With more than 180,000 registered users, ClinicalResearch.com is one of the premier patient communities within Quintiles’ Digital Patient Unit (DPU). Formed in early 2012, the DPU connects patients with the healthcare information they seek via the internet with a combined online community of more than 2.8 million patients.

“We’re very pleased that ClinicalResearch.com has again been recognized for excellence by the Web Health Awards,” said David Coman, Quintiles Senior Vice President, Corporate Communication and Patient Recruitment.

“We created this growing patient community with the goal of educating patients about the importance of clinical research and having them actively participate in it. As Jacqueline Cole’s husband says in the video, ‘The only way we’re going to find answers is through clinical research,’” Coman concluded.
