Medi+Sphere powered by Fujitsu Appliances Will Combine Custom Developed Hospital Operations and Management Applications and the NuVola Private Cloud Platform Solution

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA), a leader in innovative technology and front-end solutions, and Medi+Sphere Development, Inc. (MSDI), an emerging global leader in healthcare facilities planning and high quality clinical services development, management and operations, have announced they are working on the establishment of a strategic alliance to deliver customized NuVola Private Cloud appliances that will merge the best of today’s information technology with the most successful hospital management and operational approaches for the global healthcare market.

The customized and integrated appliances will combine Fujitsu’s NuVola Private Cloud Platform SolutionTM and Application and Development services, with MSDI’s recognized management and advisory services expertise. The result will be a series of customized, management solutions for the targeted hospital, medical clinic and healthcare market, focusing on fundamental productivity and data access improvements in the areas of processes, workflows, records search and analysis, EHR and clinical and business operations--all while maintaining highest quality best medical practices and overall reduction of operating costs.

“Recognizing MSDI’s leadership position in the field of healthcare facilities planning, clinical services development and operations, we plan to mutually address the growing demand for technology refinements in the healthcare market,” said Vic Herring, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, FFNA. “On the global stage, the underlying IT/IS infrastructure challenges inherent in meeting this growing demand, such as local networking, cloud, search and storage, are readily overcome via our NuVola Private Cloud Platform Solution strategy. We feel confident that the NuVola-based “Medi+Sphere powered by Fujitsu” appliance strategy will readily meet these challenges.”

The inception for the strategic alliance came from a recent MSDI delegation tour in the Jiangsu and Shandong Provinces of China, where Fujitsu and MSDI first presented the concept to local, regional and district officials. Strongly received, a key outcome of the trip was the development of two Letters of Intent for new hospital projects with the government in two prominent cities of the two provinces. These new “smart” hospital development projects, and the associated diagnostic services medical centers, are projected to total more than $450M (USD) in projected values, as well as to generate significant opportunities across the region for further new healthcare development.

“Working closely with Fujitsu allows us to optimize our approach to rapidly developing unique solutions for the evolving global healthcare market,” said John Reuter, Chairman of MSDI. “Convergence of Fujitsu’s market leading information technology and MSDI’s successful performance improvement processes will reduce the administrative complexity of delivering and receiving medical care for healthcare providers and patients. We look at the “Medi+Sphere powered by Fujitsu” cloud-computing appliance as a powerful starting point in our strategic alliance and a powerful tool for MSDI’s development and operations of hospital and medical clinic operations.”

The hospital and healthcare market in China is under considerable pressure to refine current processes and operational practices to keep up with the burgeoning senior citizen population. According to a recent census data report, the population of senior citizens in China (60 years old and over) is currently nearly 13% of the total population, totaling more than 175M people, with the number of senior citizens anticipated to reach over 200 million in mid-20131. Recognizing this challenge, MSDI and Fujitsu sought a joint strategy to address the pressure. Seeking a flexible and collaborative process, Fujitsu and MSDI are focused on the NuVola Private Cloud Platform Solution which is a natural starting point along with the common brand touch-points across the Fujitsu Healthcare business portfolio.
