TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In recent years, painting tools used in traditional oriental painting are declining due to reasons such as the shortage of precious materials and the lack of successors of the art.

In order to meet this demand, Warehouse TERRADA specially collected traditional painting tools that are indispensable for the preservation and restoration of works of the past and the creation of new modern works, and opened a painting tool research lab PIGMENT at Tennouzu, Tokyo as a research and development site. It has the one-of-a-kind ink stone manufactured prior to the Cultural Revolution in China, Boku-Undo Sumi ink made by the old Nara Shop, and Kumohadamashi paper by Iwano Paper which has been used in Japanese painting since the Meiji period. The Tokyo Metropolitan area shop and the international delivery website are also selling the academically rare and precious glue, and painting tools that are hard to get, even in Japan. The shop is designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It has a modern design constructed using organic bamboo curved surfaces inspired by bamboo blinds. The bamboo stretches from the roof to the eaves in a tranquil pattern and creates a space with the sense of the Japanese tradition and overwhelming boldness. More than 4,200 colours of pigments are displayed on the walls of this spacious 200m2 shop just like a painting, to create a space to stimulate the creativity of customers.

Warehouse TERRADA has been effectively capitalizing on the storage space and continuously enhancing storage and preservation technology, and is highly appreciated at home and abroad for its storage and custody technology of artworks, wine, image and music media and other specialty items. Recently, it has even extended its presence to the field of culture and arts to support technology that creates modern oriental art, and activities that carry forward charms of the art to modern times to help promote the activities to the next generation and to the world.
