The idea, naturally, is to circumvent Hong Kong’s traffic congestion, although the company quickly adds that drone deliveries will not be on the menu for some time as there are numerous regulatory issues to navigate. The spirit of pushing the envelope nevertheless did not start with the drone test. To add a touch of romance and class for Valentine’s Day, they also announced that all flower gifts on February 14 would be delivered by drivers in tuxedos.

When “same day” and “free deliveries” became common place among florists, Gift Flowers HK had to find new delivery techniques to ignite their customers’ imaginations. As for the drone scheme, “Our company has tested using drones to deliver flowers to beat the heavy traffic in Hong Kong,” adds Chung. “I believe we are the first in Hong Kong and Asia to try this, and although there’s still a lot of work to be done before we can actually employ drones, the scheme is most heartening.”
