MingSight Pharmaceuticals and Cyagen Biosciences selected by a panel of VCs and pharma executives

GUANGZHOU, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The ChinaBio® Investor Forum - Guangzhou chose two early stage life science companies as the "Most Promising" of the 14 presenting companies at the recently held conference. MingSight Pharmaceuticals was selected in the pharmaceutical category, and Cyagen Biosciences was named in the tools and services group. The ChinaBio event, which was held December 21, brought together more than 330 attendees, including over 50 international VCs and investors.

MingSight Pharmaceuticals is an emerging biopharma focused on ophthalmic therapeutics. In October of this year, MingSight announced it acquired the worldwide rights to two Pfizer compounds being developed for ophthalmic diseases. The lead compound is an oral drug that has shown efficacy in preclinical models of diabetic retinopathy. The second compound has also demonstrated supportive properties in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Pfizer says the two entities have potential beyond diabetic eye diseases, including conditions such as uveitis and dry eye. Although MingSight is headquartered in San Diego, its business plan is based on collaboration with China partners.

Cyagen Biosciences, located in Science City on the outskirts of Guangzhou, combines cutting-edge technologies from the US with the cost effectiveness of China. The company serves research labs worldwide by supplying products and technologies in stem cell research, genetic engineering and transgenic animal research. Cyagen has an 1800 square meter facility that includes a laminar flow ultra-clean cell culture lab built to GMP standards, a molecular biology lab, and an animal barrier facility housing mice and rats intended for transgenic and gene knockout research.

The event was the tenth Investor Forum in China organized by ChinaBio® LLC in just three years. ChinaBio has helped raise nearly $400 million in government and VC funding for emerging life science companies through these events.

In 2011, ChinaBio will hold its third annual ChinaBio® Partnering Forum in Beijing on May 11-12 at the Shangri-La Hotel Beijing. Held in conjunction with EBD Group, this even is expected to attract over 650 attendees. Find out more at www.CBPF2011.com.
