HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Mr John Tsang, who led a high-level business delegation on a four-day visit to Brazil to strengthen Hong Kong's connection with the rapidly growing market in South America, concluded his visit today (December 8, São Paulo time).

Mr Tsang and the delegation visited Brazilian conglomerate Cosan yesterday morning and met the Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer and board member of the company, Mr Marcelo Martins. Cosan is the largest sugar producer in Brazil and one of the world's largest producers of sugar and ethanol. He said that the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and Hong Kong's ever growing business and transport connections with Guangdong Province had unleashed multiple business opportunities for foreign companies incorporated in Hong Kong. Mr Tsang encouraged Brazilian firms from all sectors to consider the capital-raising potential of listing in Hong Kong.

Mr Tsang and the Hong Kong delegation visited the Brazilian stock exchange, BM&FBOVESPA, a leading exchange in Latin America and the second largest in the Americas.

Mr Tsang and the delegation also met the Mayor of São Paulo, Mr Gilberto Kassab.

Mr Tsang today attended a luncheon with the São Paulo business community hosted by Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, to promote closer economic and financial ties between Hong Kong and Brazil, before concluding the Brazil visit.

On December 6, Mr Tsang had meetings with a number of senior officials in Brasilia, including the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil, Mr Luiz Awazu Pereira da Silva; the Secretary of International Affairs of the Ministry of Finance, Ambassador Marcos Galvao; the Acting Secretary of Trade and Services of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Mr Mauricio Lucena do Val; and the Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations, Ambassador Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.
