Valence Emerging as the Battery Technology Leader in Electric Powered Commercial Fleet Transportation

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Valence Technology (NASDAQ: VLNC), the dynamic energy systems provider for e-Traction®, a leading European integrator of low-floor fleet buses, today announced its advanced batteries are on board Rotterdam’s first all-electric transit buses, the e-Traction® e-Busz®. The first two e-Busz® zero-emissions buses were officially transferred to the Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram (RET), Rotterdam’s public transportation authority, in a ceremony last week under the Erasmus Bridge in downtown Rotterdam.

“Once again, Valence’s leadership in advanced battery technology is making zero-emissions commercial fleet transportation possible,” said R.J. Adleman, Valence Technology’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With our dynamic energy systems, e-Traction® was able to deliver a highly advanced, zero emissions bus that will greatly benefit the residents of Rotterdam by providing clean, green, quiet public transportation.”

The 384 volt all-electric e-Traction® e-Busz® is the latest evolution of e-Traction’s Whisper 2 model. Recharged by both regenerative braking while driving and plug-in power during off-duty hours, the patented Valence Technology U-Charge® batteries are designed to operate in fleet operations for 16 to 18 hours per day. With years of fleet operating experience Valence is quickly becoming the trusted standard for electric powered commercial fleets, providing the low-noise and pollution-free transportation commuters enjoy and the lower lifetime cost commercial fleet operators demand.

“Having experienced the e-Traction® bus firsthand in Rotterdam, it is evident these smooth, silent and environmentally friendly commercial buses will help reduce carbon emissions and provide Rotterdam residents with green and enjoyable transportation for years to come,” said Adleman.

Upon successful completion of in-service testing by RET, the city of Rotterdam is expected to purchase additional e-Busz® buses to integrate into its fleet of 238 diesel transit buses.
