ST. HELIER, Jersey--()--O3b Networks today announced the second major capacity upgrade for Solomon Telekom Company Limited, trading as Our Telekom. Under the agreement Our Telekom is expanding its relationship with O3b to include the addition of O3bTrunk services, as the backhaul provider from the Solomon Islands to the internet backbone.

The Solomon Islands is the fourth largest nation in the Oceania region, with over 1,000 islands and an extremely dispersed population. Our Telekom is the leading operator in the region, and is currently expanding their robust network.

This expansion of O3b’s service allows Our Telekom to significantly increase bandwidth and improve the speed and quality of service for business and residential customers in Honiara, and, over time, for the Outer Islands as well. The increased bandwidth also enables distance education, telemedicine, live ultra HD video streaming, high-speed downloads and clear voice calls.

O3b’s next generation IP trunking solution further boosts existing link capacities to rival the throughput and latency of fiber connectivity. O3bTrunk delivers round-trip latency of less than 150 milliseconds, which is comparable to long haul fiber. The result is the highest performance voice and video for Our Telekom’s customers.

“With our second significant capacity upgrade, Our Telekom is able to provide even more services to our clients, and together grow our customers business’s and further improve residential connectivity,” said Loyley Ngira, CEO of Our Telekom. “O3b is enabling Our Telekom to quickly transform the way people in the Solomon Islands work, learn, and trade. At the push of a button O3b has dramatically increased our international connectivity yet again.”

“With this expansion, Our Telekom is enhancing their network performance in a way they never could before,” said Imran Malik, Vice President Asia/Pacific, O3b Networks Limited. “Now they have the ability to expand the range of cutting edge IP-based services to remote locations where they were previously unavailable. Additional capacity and better connectivity will help grow the economy and learning opportunities across the Solomon Islands.”
