PHILADELPHIA--()--Project Management Institute (PMI) today announced that it is developing a foundational standard in business analysis. The new standard will provide a definitive body of knowledge for anyone performing business analysis on projects, programs and portfolios.

Business analysts and project managers share the common goal of delivering solutions that meet their intended business needs and satisfy their stakeholders. The creation of a foundational standard in business analysis will drive collaboration between these roles. This will result in business analysis practices that will have an immediate positive impact on project performance and create better business outcomes.

Following on the success of Business Analysis for Practitioners: A Practice Guide and PMI’s Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)® certification, the new standard will include the “what” and “why” of business analysis. It will be PMI’s fifth foundational standard when published in 2017, joining the PMBOK® Guide, The Standard for Program Management, The Standard for Portfolio Management, and the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3)®. PMI is the world's leading not-for-profit professional membership association, and hosts the industry’s largest business analysis community.

In addition to the new foundational standard, PMI’s business analysis offerings are experiencing significant growth in China. A Simplified Chinese translation of Business Analysis for Practitioners: A Practice Guide is now available and PMI will introduce the PMI-PBA®certification in China beginning in 2016. The examination and available supporting materials will be translated into Simplified Chinese. This launch follows the successful introduction of the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)® in 2015 in Simplified Chinese. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certifications are also available in Simplified Chinese.

“As the role of business analyst becomes more essential to organizations, PMI will continue to expand its line of business analysis products and resources to meet the needs of BA professionals all over the world,” said PMI President and CEO Mark A. Langley. “The upcoming Foundational Standard and new business analysis offerings in China represent the next step in the evolution of this important and rapidly growing profession.”
