LONDON--()--Sisvel UK announced today that Orange S.A. has joined Sisvel’s Wi-Fi Licensing Program which aggregates Wi-Fi patents from different patent holders. The licensing program will assure the growth and interoperability of Wi-Fi by providing fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory access to worldwide patent rights that are essential to the IEEE’s 802.11 Wi-Fi standard and related Wi-Fi Alliance specifications.

“We are thrilled to have Orange as a partner," said Nicholas Webb, Managing Director of Sisvel UK. "Orange's participation confirms the Group’s commitment to maximize the value which our license will provide to implementers of Wi-Fi technology”.

“We are delighted to join Sisvel’s Wi-Fi Licensing Program which provides a great platform to obtain a license to our Wi-Fi patents and we are pleased for the opportunity to facilitate agreements to make the 802.11 Wi-Fi standard widely available to users” indicated Luc Savage, Orange Vice President, Intellectual Property and Licensing.

Participation in Sisvel’s Wi-Fi Joint Licensing Agreement is open to new owners of Wi-Fi standard essential patents.

About 802.11
IEEE 802.11 is a family of specifications for wireless local area network (WLAN) communications in the bands from 2.4, up to 5 GHz that has continued to evolve since the official publication of the first wireless LAN standard in IEEE Std. 802.11-1997 and many subsequent enhancements. The IEEE 802.11n specification added multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and several other enhancements, and was formally adopted as IEEE Std. 802.11n-2009. More recently, the IEEE has further enhanced WLAN throughput in the 802.11ac specification.
