China Expansion Plan Enables Better Training of Mainland Professionals in IT Auditing, Security, Control and Governance to Help Sustain Economic Growth

HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Hong Kong Chapter of ISACA, a leading global association of 86,000 information technology governance professionals, has expanded to include 1,700 members from mainland China, bringing its total membership to 3,500.

To reflect its growth, the chapter has adopted a new name: ISACA China Hong Kong Chapter. The chapter is also restructuring its board of directors to develop exchange and education opportunities among industry professionals, academia and business communities in Hong Kong and the mainland.

“Sound alignment of business objectives and IT goals is a cornerstone of success for large and small businesses alike in today’s information age and global marketplace. Therefore, our organizational and title changes, as well as expansion in China, are steps we must take to fulfill our commitment to helping enterprises in the region grow,” says Vincent Chan, president, ISACA China Hong Kong Chapter.

The ISACA China Hong Kong Chapter will now have representative committees in a number of mainland Chinese regions, including China South (Shenzhen), China Central (Shanghai) and China North (Beijing), based on the concentration of existing and potential members and outreach opportunities.

These regions are now administered by regional committee members under the directorship of board members from Hong Kong. With future growth in membership and organizational experience, these regional committees will evolve into full-scale chapters with their own boards.

With its China expansion plan and a pan-Hong Kong-mainland organizational structure in place, ISACA members, scholars and professionals in relevant industries will now have better exchange opportunities and access to ISACA certification review courses, review sessions on IT security and the business governance of IT, best practices, fraud and computer forensics guidance, and seminars on broader business topics such as report writing and business negotiation.

ISACA’s China expansion was spearheaded by its International China Task Force, which is presently under the chairmanship of former ISACA International Vice President Frank Yam. Yam, with strong support from volunteers in the original Hong Kong Chapter, has been evaluating and helping mainland China satisfy its needs for better business governance of IT and control since the mid 1990s.

“ISACA has long recognized China’s economic significance in global economy. From our point of view, the country’s need for good practices in IT governance, assurance and security is a positive and foreseeable outcome of the nation’s economic success,” said Yam. “With our members’ experience and professional expertise in business-IT alignment in Hong Kong and China, ISACA is well-positioned to help businesses and organizations perform better over the long run.”

In China, ISACA is a strategic partner of the China National Audit Office, the Nanjing Audit University and the China Banking Regulatory Commission. As part of its China expansion plan, ISACA will continue to develop partnership opportunities to cultivate an even better environment for exchange and implementation of best business-I.T. alignment practices.
