CRAWLEY, England--()--Edwards has opened a new service centre in Xian, China, bringing support closer to its customers in the north west of the country. The new 1860m2 facility has been established to support customers in the semiconductor, flat panel, solar and LED sectors, and will reduce servicing and turn-around time for customers, enabling them to minimise downtime and increase business efficiency.

The new centre is focussed on servicing a range of dry vacuum pumps such as iGX, IH, iXH and STP turbomolecular pumps, and has been designed to meet with global best operating practices. The centre follows Edwards’ enterprise excellence standards, including lean methodology, to reduce waste and improve efficiency. The Xian service centre will assist Edwards’ customers by servicing and upgrading their equipment, using spare parts and remanufacturing where necessary.

“China is a key market for us and our investment in this new centre demonstrates our commitment to our local markets. Providing dedicated service facilities close to our customer base means we can provide a faster turnaround for our products,” commented Jason Xu, General Manager of Edwards in China.

The Xian service centre further expands Edwards’ service footprint in the region, bringing the company closer to its customers. It is Edwards’ fourth service facility in China; a first service centre was established in Shanghai in 2000, and expanded in 2006; a Beijing service centre followed in May 2011, and a further service centre in Dongguan, Guangdong Province opened in early 2012. Edwards currently employs around 340 personnel in China, with 90 dedicated to service.
