REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Moka5, the leading provider of next generation end-user computing solutions, today announced its plans for a new kind of container for the web- and cloud-driven world. Referred to as Project SkyNet, this next-generation lightweight container will enable enterprises to become more device- and platform-independent by securing usage of web- and cloud-based enterprise services on any device and any platform, regardless of ownership model.

“Many enterprises like the idea of moving to web-based enterprise services, but the very ubiquity of access that makes these services so appealing is also what makes securing their usage so challenging,” said Dave Robbins, CEO Moka5. Project SkyNet aims to address these challenges by leveraging the mobile container paradigm and applying it to the PC – a native, lightweight container for the web and cloud world.

Project SkyNet will enable secure usage of 3rd-party SaaS services such as Salesforce.com, Office 365, and Workday, as well as company-hosted services such as Outlook Web Access and other internal web apps. It will also enable secure document workflows with an integrated offline-capable viewer and editor to view, annotate, and edit documents in on- and off-premises repositories such as SharePoint, network file shares, Box, and Google Drive.

“Enterprises are balancing a range of Windows- and web-centric use cases and require a unified approach to address them all,” said Robbins. “One that provides workspace security and manageability regardless of device, OS, ownership, or connectivity, but still delivers the speed and services that enterprise consumers demand. We believe that Project SkyNet extends the lead Moka5 has established in client-side container technology and represents a significant step forward in our mission to deliver simply managed, secure workspaces on any device.”

Moka5 is currently working collaboratively with customers in the rapid design and prototyping phase for the next-gen container, with a private preview planned for Q1 2015. For more information please go to http://www.moka5.com/releases/moka5-launches-project-skynet.

Project SkyNet features include:

  • Centrally-managed data protection and data leakage controls including encryption, remote wipe, copy/paste, drag-and-drop, printing, among others
  • Advanced host assessment capabilities to assess the host’s security posture before granting access to the container
  • Container-level secure enterprise connectivity that routes all container traffic through the enterprise (or a cloud-based intermediary) for visibility and policy control
  • Integrated offline-capable viewer and editor to view, annotate, and edit documents in on- and off-premises repositories
  • Single sign-on (SSO) to enable seamless access to web apps
  • Support for multi-factor authentication
