KOREAN FOOD FAIR 2014

SEOUL, South Korea--()--An opportunity to experience the taste of Korea and its culture in person has been provided in Chengdu, an officially recognized UNESCO City of Gastronomy and the cultural center of China.

'KOREAN FOOD FAIR 2014: CHENGDU' will be held in Wanda Plaza and Intercontinental Chengdu Global Center respectively to introduce delicious and healthy Korean food, which only could be met via TV programs such as a popular drama, 'Man from the Star'.

'KOREAN FOOD FAIR 2014: CHENGDU' is organized by Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and supervised by aT (Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp.). This fair will be a place for a new concept of cultural interchange introducing Korean food and its culture in China. It is especially designed for Chengdu citizens who had relevantly fewer chances to meet Korean culture compared to Beijing and Shanghai, to experience Korean culture as well as enjoy Korean food exhibitions and consultation meetings.

The fair consists of two parts.

Consultation Meeting for Korean Food

Consultation meeting providing local buyers with business opportunities and Korean food experience will be held on September 19th at Intercontinental Chengdu Global Center. A total of 28 Korean F&B companies and 54 Chinese F&B buyers will participate in this meeting, and counseling on the latest Korean food trend will be carried out.

※ Participating companies (28): frozen dessert & dairy products (8), tea/beverage/liquor (7), sauce & processed-food (7), general F&B (6)

Special booths for the Kimchi making-process, rice-makgeolli, rice-baby food and rice-snacks will be set up to meet increasing interest of Chinese F&B buyers.

K-Food Consumer Experience Event

From September 20th to 21st, various consumer-engaged events will be held at Wanda Plaza, Chengdu. The venue will be composed of 3 themes: pure taste, rich flavor and cold and fresh feeling. Along with the exhibitions of participating companies' products, consumer-participating games, free food samplings at Open Kitchen will be prepared for visitors. For the opening ceremony, about 100 university students in Chengdu will make Kimchi. Kimjang, the Korean tradition of making and sharing Kimchi, was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2013, for it strengthens family cooperation and social solidarity.

Aside from this huge opening ceremony, a special zone for experiencing Korean traditional culture such as Taekwondo, traditional costume and folk games will be arranged. Stage performances such as Korean traditional martial art performance, traditional music concert and K-POP dance performance will enable the visitors to meet another aspect of Korean culture.

Kim Jae-Soo, President of aT said "Chengdu has been known for its diverse historical cuisine and gourmets. I believe that Chengdu citizens will enjoy healthy and high-quality Korean food as well. In addition, I hope that China and Korea can establish more friendly relationship through Korean food introduced by 'KOREAN FOOD FAIR 2014: CHENGDU'.”
