KFAR-SABA, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--N-trig®, provider of DuoSense® – the first integrated active pen and multi-touch technology, today announced that Intel® Corporation has implemented the DuoSense controller chipset into its Intel® Education Tablet, a device for the education market. The Android tablet features N-trig’s thin active pen, specially designed to garage within the 10.1” screen system.
Over the past few years, the education sector has experienced a rapidly increasing trend toward using touch-enabled devices in the classroom. While these devices were traditionally employed as content consumption devices, the Intel® Education Tablet with DuoSense active pen expands students’ creativity.
“Writing, sketching, annotating, illustrating, highlighting and showing process are essential parts of the teaching and learning process,” said Robert J. Baker, director of technology, Cincinnati Country Day School. “And when you want to take advantage of the power of a stylus, it is essential that you have an active digitizer solution like N-trig’s. Most people are not aware of the exponential difference in performance between active pens and a capacitive stylus, like you get with an iPad or other capacitive touch devices. Drawing or writing with what amounts to a finger on a stick is far too constraining to be useful.”
N-trig’s pen enhances student interactivity and collaboration across a wide range of subjects, including:
- Language Arts: Elementary school students can use the pen to practice their letters, while middle and high school students take notes and complete homework directly onto the screen. The advanced palm rejection feature allows students to rest their hands naturally on the surface while writing, just as they would when putting pen on paper. Furthermore, the pen’s thin tip enables users to take full advantage of the 10.1” screen by writing more text, drawing more accurate diagrams and easily controlling small icons in any application.
- Mathematics/Science: Students can input mathematical characters used in algebra, geometry and calculus, as well as figures related to chemistry, physics, and biology.
- Art: With its 256 distinct levels of pressure sensitivity, the pen is optimal for drawing and sketching in multiple colors, shades and styles. Students can highlight or bold their pen strokes simply by pressing harder on the screen.
- Music and Complex Characters: The pen can be used by students of all languages, and is also valuable for writing complex musical notation.
“It is always extremely gratifying when an industry leader like Intel recognizes the value of our DuoSense technology,” said Ronen Heldman, VP Marketing at N-trig. “Collaborating with Intel has enabled us to better understand the education sector end user’s needs. With N-trig active pen, our OEM customers can differentiate their Education Tablet from others, while enhancing the 21st century student's experience.”
Leveraging its unique DuoSense® technology, N-trig provides high performance pen and touchscreen single-chip controllers and a variety of active pen types for smartphone, tablet and Ultrabook™ devices. By enabling OEMs to use a single sensor for both pen and touch, the company’s technology facilitates slim and cost-effective designs.
