THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minnesota, USA--()--Global electronic components distributor Digi-Key Corporation today announced that it has surpassed one million in-stock components available for immediate shipment, accessible via the new and improved Digi-Key Bill of Materials (BOM) Manager. The company also announced a new Scheduled Shipments feature and Shopping Cart enhancements as well as additional global website improvements designed to accelerate information access and simplify the ordering process.

“Digi-Key is dedicated to continually improving the user experience,” said Tony Harris, Chief Marketing Officer of Digi-Key. “Our customers tell us that they appreciate how fast and easy they can compare and select from among hundreds of thousands of parts available for immediate delivery. There isn’t another BOM Manager available today that links to this volume of in-stock parts. This kind of high-value offering is central to Digi-Key’s commitment to being the best available resource for both purchasers and engineers.”

Digi-Key BOM Manager

Digi-Key’s enhanced BOM Manager is a web-based tool that makes it easy for electronic component purchasers to create and save their BOM at all stages of product design. Integrated into Digi-Key’s broad product portfolio, with access to one million in-stock components, users can quickly view inventory availability, price breaks, regulatory compliance data, and other valuable information. Users can simply sign in as a registered Digi-Key user, and upload their parts lists and compare with our product lists. The tool makes it easy to create and save a BOM and immediately download quotes to their desktop.

“As compared to other BOM Managers on the market, the Digi-Key tool is extremely popular because of our broad selection of parts available for immediate delivery,” said Dave Doherty, VP of Global Supplier and Product Operations. “It’s real-time access to a dynamic list of one million in-stock parts. This means that customers can instantly create their quotes online, make price comparisons, and place their order with the click of a button. Or, they can choose to save each BOM and share their product designs internally.”

With Digi-Key’s BOM Manager, users can create and save their BOM with the correct part ratios, making it easy to multiply by the number of product assemblies during the ordering process. Purchasers can also choose to create a “Single Kit” to package several kits together, or a “Multi Kit” to package each kit separately.

Scheduled Shipments

Digi-Key’s new scheduled shipment feature enables users to break a line item into multiple shipments and/or choose to have each line item on an order ship separately and arrive on different dates. The Scheduled Shipments option allows customers to reduce their inventory costs, paying by the piece versus for paying a lump sum for a large quantity order, saving administrative time and resources.

Shopping Cart Updates

Digi-Key customers can now label their shopping carts with unique names instead of relying on Web ID’s and sales order numbers. Users need to simply log-in or register to view the editable shopping cart naming field. Then, they need only click within the text box, enter a name, and click the “Save” button. Once a name is validated as being unique, it will appear in the text box, as well as in Web Order History and Order Status.

Additional shopping cart features include “Combine Carts”, which allows users to combine multiple carts from two different locations. From the cart page, the customer can add older carts to the current one by accessing their order history to select from previous carts. Customers can also combine carts from the Web Order History page within My Digi-Key by clicking the “Add to Cart” or “Combine” buttons found beneath the lower right hand corner of the table. This will create a new shopping cart containing the combined component selections.

These website features and upgrades along with new BOM Manager are part of Digi-Key’s ongoing commitment to be first choice for engineers and purchasers, supporting the entire product lifecycle - from prototype to production.
