TOKYO--()--Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced that it has launched a 3-phase brushless1 sensorless motor2 pre-driver IC for automotive applications, “TB9061AFNG”. Sample shipments will start in October, with mass production scheduled to start in March, 2014.

The engines of cars equipped with an idling reduction system cut out when the system is activated, and the power source for oil pumps and engine cooling pumps must be shifted from the engine to the motor. The new IC incorporates Toshiba’s original brushless motor drive control circuit that can control motors without using heat-sensitive hole sensors3, securing control of pumps in a very hot environment. The product also contributes to materials and cost reductions.

Key Features of the Product
1. Sensorless motor drive
120-degree rectangular wave motor control is realized by an input signal line that measures the induced voltage4 of the motors and three-phase motor output. The IC does not require external hole sensors, contributing to simple system configuration and smaller PCB size.

2. Motor rotation can be controlled by the DC input signal or the PWM input signal.

3. Efficient motor drive control by lead angle5 setting
Selection of preliminary programmed lead angle setting offers improvement of motor drive efficiency.

4. A built-in automatic return control functions reduces motor stops caused by external control in DC input control mode.
