Company is one of the first to offer LED-based exam lights that never require bulb replacement, provide whiter, brighter light

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today introduced the Green Series™ Medical Exam Lights—some of the first medical exam lights in the world that feature energy-efficient light- emitting diodes (LEDs) as opposed to halogen lamps. The new lights do not require bulb replacement and produce white, bright light with a color temperature of 5,500ºK, providing caregivers with a superior light that offers industry-leading lumen performance and 50,000 hours of life.

“Our new suite of medical exam lights are designed to fit any healthcare environment from OB/GYN offices to the surgicenter,” said Jörg Ringwald, international frontline care manager at Welch Allyn. “They give caregivers enhanced visualization of the exam area using whiter, brighter light, and the energy efficiency of the LED technology provides a lower cost of ownership.”

The family of Welch Allyn Green Series Medical Exam Lights include:

  • GS Exam Light IV—Designed for the OB/GYN office, providing 3X the typical light output and a highly flexible light pipe.
  • GS 300 General Exam Light—Combines intense light output and cool operation in a compact design for in-office procedures.
  • GS 600 Minor Procedure Light—Features three LEDs and a wider head designed for minor surgical procedures and exams.
  • GS 900 Procedure Light—Features six LEDs, combining durability, maneuverability, spot quality and multiple mounting options for nearly every application in any environment.

The white LEDs used in the Welch Allyn Green Series Medical Exam Lights provide true tissue color rendition and a uniform spot—no dark or hot spots—and no heat dissipation for greater patient comfort and safety. The touchless auto on/off and intensity control features reduce the risk of infections due to cross-contamination, and the ergonomic design simplifies cleaning.

“We are excited to offer caregivers high-performance LED exam lights that can improve examinations and save them money at the same time,” added Ringwald. “Providers are under constant pressure to save time, screen and diagnose accurately, and treat patients quickly without compromising care. By offering more features and benefits on our new line of medical exam lights, we help reduce these pressures so practitioners can be more productive and focus on their most important task—enhancing patient care.”

Welch Allyn recently joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR® Partnership. As one of the first medical device companies to join, Welch Allyn—through its voluntary partnership with the EPA—is working to continually enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in its products, processes and manufacturing facilities across the globe.
