PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Valimo, a leading software solution provider for mobile authentication and digital signature, in conjunction with Gemalto, the world leader in digital security, have been chosen to provide a Mobile ID solution to MobME Wireless Solutions - an innovation company focused on value added services for mobile subscribers and carrier-grade solutions for mobile network operators. The solution utilizes Valimo’s Mobile ID solution and Gemalto’s UpTeq PKI high-end SIM cards to create a secure authentication channel to enable legally binding digital signatures for transactions via mobile phones. This is the first-ever mobile signature solution in India and is available on all handsets.

Open and interoperable, the Valimo system is deployed in MobME’s datacenter is available to mobile network operators and service providers such as banks and enterprises across India. Carriers providing the MobME service will provide their subscribers with the SIM cards that feature the necessary software. Subscribers will then need to register to start using the service on their usual mobile handset. Relying on two factor authentication, the solution guarantees proof of ID and non-repudiation of transactions. It is particularly useful for financial, healthcare, enterprise and eGovernment services which require strong user identification, authentication and transaction authorization.

“With over 900 million mobile phone subscribers and 15 million broadband users in India, the mobile phone is the preferred platform for maximizing the potential of digital signatures, compared to computers,” said Sanjay Vijayakumar, CEO of MobMe. “Convenient and highly secure, we foresee Valimo Mobile ID revolutionizing the e-transactions landscape in India.”

“The Reserve Bank of India has provided steady vision and pushed for the use of mobile phones in filing financial reports over the last few years1,” said Eric Claudel, Senior Vice-President of Telecommunications at Gemalto. “Our UpTeq range of high-end SIM cards can enable a wide range of next-generation secure e-services available on all handsets, bringing convenience to consumers in India.”

“Security and convenience are the first concerns for mobile operators looking to offer strong authentication and digital signature services,” said Juha Mitrunen, Sales Director Asia for Valimo. “The Mobile ID product provides a comprehensive answer and unlocks the full potential of mobile phones to deliver financial, insurance and eGovernment services. Once a Mobile ID is created on a SIM, end users are only 4 digits away from signing up to new services and contracts.”
