SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GCT® Semiconductor, a leading designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, today announced that its 4G LTE single-chip, GDM7240, powers a new LTE M2M module, commercially available with LGU+, the leading telecommunication service provider in Korea. The new LTE M2M module, packaged as a half-mini-card, successfully completed LGU+’s interoperability testing, and is now commercially available. In addition, GCT and LGU+ continue to collaborate to develop other LTE single-mode applications such as routers.

As new LTE networks are being deployed worldwide, there is a growing convergence between LTE and M2M, which offers benefits such as faster data rates, lower latency, and longevity, an important benefit for devices that have long lifecycles. LGU+’s LTE M2M module is ideally suited for point-of-sale terminals, automotive, remote monitoring and tracking, etc.

“The demand for LTE data services in South Korea is rapidly increasing since our LTE commercial launch in July 2011,” said David C.B. Choi, Device Development Unit, Vice President of LGU+. “We are pleased to be collaborating with GCT and extend our line of commercial products by offering this new LTE M2M module. We look forward to a continued relationship with GCT as we work together to develop additional LTE applications.”

“Cost competitiveness and high performance are especially important requirements in M2M modules for LTE,” said Dr. Kyengho “KH” Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of GCT Semiconductor, Inc. “GCT with close partnership with LGU+ was able to create a solution that meets these requirements. We are pleased to be working with LGU+ to support the development and commercialization of this M2M LTE module.”

GCT’s GDM7240 has been selected for commercial use in terminal devices deployed by the leading LTE operators in the U.S. and various markets worldwide. GDM7240 is a field-proven LTE single-chip solution ideally suited to meet the rapidly growing demands for higher data speed, low power consumption, higher mobility, enhanced applications and global roaming.

About LGU+

The three LG Telecommunication companies make a new start under the name "LG U+". The company was founded on the back of the successful commercialization of the world's first CDMA technology in July 1996. Since beginning the PCS service around the country in October 1997, the company has continued to grow together with the customers and today LG Telecom, LG Dacom, and LG Powercom have combined to make a new start as LG U+.
