Partnerships with Leading Film and Sensor Makers Grow ClearOhm™ Ecosystem for ODMs and Device Makers

CEATEC JAPAN 2012

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cambrios Technologies Corporation, the leader in nanotechnology-based solutions for transparent conductive electronic devices, announced two new partnerships with leading touch ecosystem partners: film maker Okura Industrial Co. Ltd. and sensor maker Shin-Etsu Polymer Co., Ltd. Each partner company will use Cambrios’ high-performance ClearOhm™ coating material to enable large area touch products, including Ultrabooks, all-in-ones and tablets.

Cambrios showcased its rapidly expanding ClearOhm ecosystem at CEATEC JAPAN 2012, October 2 - 5, 2012. Shin-Etsu demonstrated ClearOhm-based large area touch sensors for use in Ultrabooks. Film-maker Okura exhibited low resistance ClearOhm coated transparent conductive film enabling large size touch panels for Ultrabook and all-in-one computer markets.

“The Shin-Etsu and Okura partnerships underscore the value of ClearOhm material for each and every link of the large area touch-sensor supply chain,” said John LeMoncheck, President and CEO of Cambrios. “We’re expanding our world-class ecosystem of IC suppliers, film makers and sensor makers to provide ODMs and device makers high-performance, cost-effective large area touch solutions based on ClearOhm™ materials, and we’re thrilled to have production products shipping today.”

Okura

Okura, a worldwide supplier of high-quality optical films, is collaborating with Cambrios to create a family of high-performance, transparent conductive films based on Cambrios’ ClearOhm coating material. Okura joins Cambrios’ growing list of film maker partners, which includes Toray Advanced Films, Hitachi Chemical and DIC, giving large area touch sensor makers another expert film maker from which to purchase high-quality ClearOhm-based film. At CEATEC, Okura showed its ClearOhm-enabled film to select sensor makers, and will begin volume production soon.

Shin-Etsu

Sensor-maker Shin-Etsu has partnered with Cambrios to create ClearOhm-based large area touch sensors for Ultrabooks and tablet computers. As a result of ClearOhm material’s low cost, flexibility, and optical and electrical performance, Shin-Etsu’s film-based touch sensors will be lighter, thinner, and stronger than traditional glass-based sensors, making them ideal for large area touch applications. Shin-Etsu has begun pilot production of touch sensors for tablets and Ultrabooks ranging in size from 7” to 15.6”, and also plans to develop touch sensors for the automotive market using ClearOhm material.

With unparalleled optical and electrical performance, Cambrios’ cost-effective ClearOhm material is ideal for the emerging market of projected capacitive touch panels for tablet, laptop, Ultrabook, and all-in-one computers. ClearOhm material on film offers far superior conductivity (ranging from 30 to 150 Ohms/square) versus indium tin oxide (ITO) sputtered on film. It is also thinner, lighter and more durable than ITO and other metal-oxide ceramic materials deposited on glass.

About Cambrios:

Cambrios leads the industry in providing solutions based on proprietary, innovative technologies for consumer electronics markets using nanotechnology. Its breakthrough transparent conductor products, available today, simplify electronics manufacturing processes and improve end-product cost and performance for current and next-generation consumer devices such as large area and flexible touch and other high conductivity, optically clear applications. The company's first product, its ClearOhmTM coating material, produces a transparent, conductive film by wet processing with significantly higher optical and electrical performance than currently used materials such as indium tin oxide. Applications of ClearOhmTM coating material include transparent electrodes for touch screens, EMI shielding, OLED displays, e-paper, OLED lighting and thin film photovoltaics.

Cambrios is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California with offices in Japan and Taiwan.

ClearOhmTM is a trademark of Cambrios Technologies Corporation.
