Mobile connected devices drive the industry as consumers seek mobility to stay connected

2013 International CES

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced that Lowell C. McAdam, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Verizon Communications, will deliver a keynote address at the 2013 International CES. The 2013 CES, the world’s largest and most important technology event, runs January 8-11, 2013.

McAdam’s keynote address will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8 in The Venetian’s Palazzo Ballroom.

With more than 730 wireless exhibitors expected at the 2013 CES, mobile connected devices are driving the industry as consumers seek mobility to stay connected anywhere, anytime. CEA research shows that smartphone sales will see continued growth this year and will remain the primary revenue driver for the industry. Shipment revenues for smartphones are expected to reach $33.7 billion in 2012, with more than 108 million units shipping to dealers, up 24 percent from 2011.

“As a world leader in providing innovation in communications, mobility and entertainment, Verizon’s success comes from the key role it plays in the lives of consumers,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “We are excited to bring Lowell McAdam to the CES keynote stage to share his vision for the future of expanded access to technology, empowering consumers around the world.”

McAdam succeeded Ivan Seidenberg as CEO on August 1, 2011 and as chairman on January 1, 2012. He currently oversees the operations of Verizon Communications, including all business units and staff functions. Previously, McAdam served as president and COO and had responsibility for the operations of the company’s network-based businesses – Verizon Wireless and Verizon Telecom and Business – as well as Verizon Services Operations. He was also responsible for the technology management and CIO functions.

Holding executive positions at Verizon Wireless since its inception in 2000, McAdam built the company into the leading wireless provider, with the nation’s largest, most reliable wireless voice and 3G broadband data network. He was president and CEO of Verizon Wireless from 2007 until being named COO of Verizon, and before that served as Verizon Wireless’ executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Formerly, McAdam was president and CEO of PrimeCo Personal Communications, a joint venture owned by Bell Atlantic and Vodafone AirTouch. He also served as PrimeCo’s chief operating officer, responsible for overseeing the deployment of the new company’s customer service operations and all-digital network.

McAdam is a director of the National Academy Foundation, a partnership between business leaders and educators that helps high schools across the country establish and run technical and service academies to prepare students for college and careers.

The 2013 CES will feature 3,000 global technology companies unveiling the latest consumer technology products and services across 15 major product categories including the latest in audio, automotive electronics, connected home technologies, digital imaging/photography, electronic gaming, entertainment/content and more.
