BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Two years after selecting Freescale’s (NYSE: FSL) MSC8156 digital signal processor (DSP) as a key processing engine for its latest generation of TD-SCDMA base stations, Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, has deployed installations based on the Freescale device. The MSC8156 DSP has played an important role in Chinese carriers’ rapid adoption of Huawei’s successful TD-SCDMA infrastructure equipment, and the Freescale DSP also was recently selected to power upcoming Huawei generations for future carrier deployments as well.

Huawei selected Freescale Semiconductor’s MSC8156 DSP to provide high-performance digital signal processing capabilities for a number of TD-SCDMA base stations. The Freescale MSC8156 DSP delivers the processing performance, programmability, high-speed embedded accelerators and interfaces to help Huawei deliver scalable, low-cost, energy-efficient base stations that take TD-SCDMA wireless network performance to new levels.

“Huawei is committed to offering customer-centric solutions and products, which leverage the performance and programmability of Freescale’s MSC8156 DSP,” said Chen Xi, chief technology officer of Huawei’s Wireless Network Business Unit. “Freescale’s product significantly improved our overall base station efficiency by providing highly efficient DSP cores and accelerators, allowing us to provide the industry’s highest number of TD-SCDMA carrier waves in a base station and increased system flexibility.”

Tuned for a range of broadband wireless standards (including TD-SCDMA), Freescale’s MSC8156 DSP is the workhorse behind the physical layer processing in Huawei’s TD-SCDMA base stations. The device combines six DSP cores based on SC3850 StarCore® core technology, high throughput and standard compliant baseband accelerators supporting the latest wireless standards, together with high-speed interfaces such as Serial RapidIO, PCI-Express and Gigabit Ethernet pertinent to different system topologies and high throughput requirements – all engineered to dramatically advance the capabilities of wireless broadband base station equipment.

“Freescale is pleased to be part of Huawei’s highly advanced base station portfolio,” said Scott Aylor, general manager of Freescale’s Wireless Access Division. “Huawei’s broad adoption of the MSC8156 DSP has resulted in world-class products from Huawei and successful deployment initiatives from China’s top carriers.”

In addition to its strong portfolio of base station DSPs, Freescale is also the global leader in RF power solutions for cellular infrastructure equipment, and has established a long track record of successful RF technology collaboration with Huawei. The company also uses a broad array of Freescale QorIQ® and PowerQUICC® communications processors optimized for its wireless infrastructure applications.
