New Hospital will Feature Medi+Sphere powered by Fujitsu Appliances to Manage Hospital Operations and Administration on the NuVola Private Cloud Platform Solution

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA), a leader in innovative technology and front-end solutions, and Medi+Sphere Development, Inc. (MSDI), an emerging global leader in healthcare facilities planning and high quality clinical services development, management and operations, have announced that MSDI has consummated an agreement with Rushan City, Shandong Province, China, to build, outfit and manage a comprehensive Heart and Vascular Hospital. This facility will serve the four main cities (Weifang, Yantai, Qingdao, and Weihai) as well as the City of Rushan, all of which are located on the Shandong Peninsula. The hospital will be named the Shandong MSDI International Heart and Vascular Hospital (SMIHVH). Fujitsu will provide all Information and Communications Technology (ICT) products and services for the SMIHVH.

Signed on July 12th in Hong Kong at the 2012 Chinese Governors Working Conference, the agreement specifies allocation of 246 mu (approximately 40 acres or 162,000 sq. meters) of land, to be held in a Joint Venture between Rushan City and MSDI, as well as conditions for construction and ongoing management of the new, 155-bed Heart and Vascular Hospital. The contract award value is estimated over $200M (USD) for the project. In its role as Technology Provider, Fujitsu will work with MSDI to outfit the SMIHVH facility with all related ICT products and services, focusing on the NuVola Private Cloud Platform™ and Medi+Sphere powered by Fujitsu™ hospital management appliances.

“MSDI is very pleased to announce the formal agreement between the City of Rushan and MSDI,” said Charles Franc, President and CEO, MSDI. “This important agreement serves to raise the regional capability to provide cardiovascular disease diagnosis and advanced care and treatment for the people of Rushan and across the Shandong Peninsula. It has been a pleasure to work with Rushan City staff and the office of Mayor Sui and the Weihai City staff and the office of Mayor Zhang Hui and Vice-Mayor Tian. MSDI also wishes to extend special thanks to Governor Jiang Daming of Shandong Province and his staff, for his strong expression of support to see the project through to completion.”

The inception of the project occurred during a meeting held in southern California in early 2011 with the then Mayor of Weihai, Mr. Sun, now Party Secretary of Weihai. Mayor Sun and MSDI held an extensive discussion regarding MSDI establishing an advanced heart and vascular hospital in the Weihai area. The recent acceleration of project development activities came from a recent MSDI delegation tour in Shandong Province of China, where Fujitsu and MSDI first presented the concept of a “smart” heart and vascular hospital to local and Provincial officials. Strongly received, a key outcome of the trip was the development of a Letter of Intent for the new hospital project with the local and regional government officials. Rushan City representatives were compelled by the expectation of having a local hospital with world class status and as well as the concept of a new “smart” hospital, focusing on Heart and Vascular Services.

“This announcement gives us great pride in raising the level of healthcare and associated services available to the peoples of Rushan City and across the Shandong Province,” said Sui Jian Bo, Mayor of Rushan City. “Working with Medi+Sphere and Fujitsu affords us the ability to focus on delivering the highest level of hospital management and patient care, while relying on advanced technologies and methods to monitor efficiency, productivity and costs.”

The overall hospital and healthcare market in China is under considerable pressure to refine current processes and operational practices to keep up with the burgeoning senior citizen population. According to a recent census data report, the population of senior citizens in China (60 years old and over) is currently nearly 13% of the total population, totaling more than 175M people, with the number of senior citizens anticipated to reach over 200 million in mid-20131. Recognizing this challenge, MSDI and Fujitsu have formed a joint alliance to address this national concern through the NuVola Private Cloud Platform Solution along with the common brand touch-points across the Fujitsu Healthcare business portfolio.

“Fujitsu is honored to be part of such an important project in Rushan City,” stated Vic Herring, Vice President of the Cloud Infrastructure Solutions Group, Fujitsu Frontech North America. “Aiming for greater efficiency and productivity through the use of Fujitsu’s broad technology portfolio will result in a higher quality of care for all people in the region.”

The Shandong MSDI International Heart and Vascular Hospital will commence ground-breaking in early 2013, with a target opening date of 1st Quarter 2015.
