Venable to Take Lead in Promoting and Driving Adoption of Innovative Memory Interface Architecture for Mobile Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SPMT, LLC, the entity responsible for licensing the Serial Port Memory Technology (SPMT™) specification and administering the SPMT Consortium, today announced the appointment of James Venable as president. Venable will oversee day-to-day operations of the Consortium and drive adoption of the innovative serial port memory interface architecture among manufacturers of handset, gaming, netbooks and other mobile devices.

SPMT, LLC, launched in May 2009, is the standards organization responsible for managing the SPMT specification, the first-of-its-kind technology for dynamic random access memory (DRAM) capable of delivering the bandwidth flexibility and scalability required by new generations of mobile devices - all at significantly reduced pin count, low power consumption and lower cost.

Venable was instrumental in forming the SPMT Consortium by establishing key relationships with industry leaders Hynix, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics and Silicon Image, all of whom are founding promoters of the Consortium.

“We are looking forward to working with memory, consumer electronics, semiconductor and IP companies to promote and increase the adoption of SPMT technology,” said James Venable, president of SPMT, LLC. “Serial Port Memory Technology is going to enable a new generation of mobile devices capable of performing highly data intensive, media-rich applications while simultaneously improving performance and extending battery life.”

James Venable has more than 25 years' experience in the semiconductor and IP industry, including extensive expertise in engineering, marketing and business development. He has held senior management positions directing product strategy and market development at AMD, Hitachi, Mentor Graphics, Motorola and Sharp, and was most recently responsible for driving Silicon Image’s emerging advanced memory IP products for mobile and consumer electronics market segments. Venable received his degree in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University.

The SPMT Consortium welcomes companies and organizations to inquire about joining the group. Opportunities to participate in the advancement of Serial Port Memory Technology exist for contributors and adopters.
