Global sale offers savings up to 40 percent to help travelers see the world

MCLEAN, Va. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --

A well-worn passport can result in more than just a scrapbook full of pictures and good stories to share. According to a recent survey* commissioned by Hilton Worldwide, a majority of respondents believe that travel also provides a better understanding of the world. To encourage more travelers to pack their bags and experience the world's vast array of cultures, Hilton HHonors, the loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide's 10 distinct hotel brands, today launched its latest global sale - The Great Getaway.

Through the offer, guests can save up to 40 percent on stays completed between now and September 30, 2012, at any of the participating hotels within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, which includes Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Hotels.

To explore the benefits of travel to individuals, the economy and society, Hilton Worldwide conducted an international research study titled, "Travel and Culture in a Globally Connected World." The study revealed several notable results, including:

  • Roughly 80 percent of Americans and 70 percent of Chinese participants surveyed agreed they would travel more if they had more money.
  • Limited vacation days and work commitments were cited as major deterrents for a majority of survey participants in both the United States and China.
  • More than three-fourths of both Americans and Chinese survey participants (82 percent and 78 percent, respectively) agreed that travel provides a better understanding of the world.

"The Great Getaway provides travelers with an additional reason to learn more, experience more and travel more this season - for less," said Jeff Diskin, senior vice president, global customer marketing, Hilton Worldwide. "While the majority of survey participants agreed that travel makes people more tolerant and more understanding of other cultures, they also named money as a top barrier of traveling."

Guests looking to experience the world for less can book a stay through The Great Getaway sale at HHonors.com/Getaway between now and July 23, 2012. For more information or to become a Hilton HHonors member, visit HHonors.com.
