Dolby creates showcase for innovation at iconic Hollywood landmark, beginning with new Dolby Atmos sound technology

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) today announced that the Dolby® Theatre™, the iconic Hollywood landmark known to the world as the home of the Academy Awards®, will be the world’s stage for entertainment sound. Dolby will enhance the sound system of the theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, owned by CIM Group, to create a world-class showcase for Dolby’s current and future technologies, beginning with the company’s revolutionary new Dolby Atmos™ sound technology, released last week.

The Dolby Theatre amplifies Dolby’s commitment to innovation and ongoing role as leader and creator of the most realistic and immersive entertainment experiences. Dolby will start its enhancement of the 180,000-square-foot, 3,400-seat theatre first by installing Dolby Atmos—a breakthrough audio technology that delivers the most natural, life-like sensory experience. The company will continue to update the Dolby Theatre with the newest technologies, making it a coveted host for the world’s top premieres and launch events.

“Dolby is a brand recognized around the world for creating the best, most life-like entertainment sound experiences in any environment,” said Kevin Yeaman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dolby Laboratories. “This partnership with CIM allows the Dolby Theatre to be not only the world-stage for the Academy Awards, but for Dolby innovations for decades to come.”

From the cinema to the living room, Dolby has transformed the entertainment experience and is recognized as the standard for high-quality audio. Today Dolby technologies can be found in theatres, Blu-ray, video games, DVDs, mobile media, digital broadcast TV, digital cable, professional recording studios, and satellite systems.

For 34 consecutive years, films released with Dolby audio technologies have earned Academy Award nominations for outstanding sound quality. The Dolby Theatre will be the host of the annual Academy Awards program.

“Dolby Laboratories has a long history in Hollywood and has made significant contributions to the entertainment industry. It is a respected international brand and technology innovator. We are proud to welcome them as our partner on the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center,” said Shaul Kuba, Co-Founder, CIM Group.
