LOUGHBOROUGH, England -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Intelligent Energy, the global clean power systems company, has today announced the appointment of Steve Hunton to the role of Managing Director, Stationary & Backup Power division. Hunton will be responsible for growing the company's stationary and backup power business globally, shaping strategy and developing key partnerships in the sector.

Hunton moves from his previous role as Global Sales Director, where he has successfully managed Intelligent Energy's global portfolio of clients, in addition to developing new business across the firm's target market sectors. Prior to joining Intelligent Energy in early 2010, Hunton held global sales and marketing as well as operational roles at Lotus Engineering.

"To understand the explosive growth potential for fuel cell stationary and backup power systems, one needs look no further than the global growth of telecommunications, particularly in the emerging economies," explained Hunton. "Intelligent Energy's highly efficient, zero emissions technology is quiet, cost-effective, proven in the field and perfectly placed to meet the demands of this growing market and others where there is an ever present need for always ready, always reliable power."

Intelligent Energy's Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell systems are particularly appropriate for remote power applications requiring intermittent backup or complete grid replacement. Cost effective with few moving parts, they require less maintenance, are much less polluting than generators and can be monitored remotely, making them ideal for providing power to often remote cell phone towers, buildings, hospitals and data centres. Unlike petrol, and especially, diesel generators, Intelligent Energy's backup and stationary power systems do not emit particulate (PM10) emissions and are very quiet which makes them ideal in cities where air quality is important.

"Steve has deep commercial and operational expertise. Both are called for by a sector where we are experiencing rapidly growing demand, with our clean power systems already deployed by customers in the field," said Dr Henri Winand, Chief Executive, Intelligent Energy. "His appointment now as Managing Director of our Stationary & Backup Power Division is perfectly timed to capitalise on this demand driven growth for our unique, proprietary, clean and efficient power systems."
