C-Band capacity to link Korea with Africa and the Middle East

CommunicAsia 2009

THE HAGUE, Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES, a division of SES S.A. (Paris:SESG)(LUxX:SESG) announced today at CommunicAsia in Singapore that Korea Telecom Corporation (KT) has signed a three-year capacity agreement for the use of up to 9 MHz of C-band capacity on the NSS-703 and NSS-12 satellites.

NSS-703 orbits at 57 degrees East while NSS-12 is scheduled to be launched into this orbital position in the third quarter of 2009. KT Corporation, Korea’s incumbent telecom operator, has deployed a dedicated 32 meter uplink antenna to access the new SES AMERICOM NEW SKIES satellite at its Earth Station in Boeun, Korea.

Mr. Chang, Sang Ku, Director of KT Corporation, said: "The coverage and power of the NSS satellites provide us with an excellent opportunity to help our Korean customers to connect to their operations in Africa and the Middle East through one single satellite hop."

Elias Zaccack, Vice President of Sales Asia Pacific at SES AMERICOM-NEW SKIES added: "Our satellites have been specifically designed to support our customers’ connectivity needs in the target regions. NSS-12 with its cross-connectivity transponders is ideally suited to support our cross-regional requirements. We are pleased to add KT to the list of prestigious customers on NSS-12, a new satellite which will be practically fully booked when it launches."

About NSS-703

At the crossroads of three continents, NSS-703 at 57º East provides vital cross-connectivity for Europe, Africa and Asia. NSS-703 is ideal for video contribution from Europe to India and Africa, and is capable of bringing signals from London to India and Australia in one hop. NSS-703's coverage includes a global beam, and two C-band hemispheric beams, which cover Africa and the triangle from the Middle East to Japan and Australia, including all of India and China.

About NSS-12

The powerful, state-of-the-art NSS-12 satellite is under construction with Space Systems/Loral and will be available for commercial service in 2009, replacing NSS-703 at 57 degrees East. NSS-12 will cover virtually the entire Eastern Hemisphere and will bring increased capacity and transmission power to a key orbital location at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. The spacecraft features 40 C-band transponders and 48 Ku-band transponders with DTH power levels, as well as elaborate beam interconnectivity and C-/Ku-band cross-strapping.
