The Low-Power Analogix ANX9832 Helps Achieve Higher Resolution Images on Legacy Displays with VGA Connectors over Long and Low Quality Cables Connected to New DisplayPort Enabled Computers at a Significantly Lower Cost

COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009

TAIPEI, Taiwan & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Analogix Semiconductor, a world leader in high-performance digital multi-media interface solutions, today released a low-power DisplayPort to VGA converter that offers the highest resolution in the industry. The ANX9832 is designed to connect DisplayPort-enabled computers to legacy monitors, flat-panel televisions, multimedia projectors and home theater systems with VGA ports and delivers the lowest power consumption in the market in its class at a significantly lower system cost than competitive products.

Industry estimates show that more than 2 billion legacy monitors, flat-panel televisions, multimedia A/V receivers and other VGA receiver display devices remain in use as new notebooks, desktops and netbooks are introduced in the market with DisplayPort, the next generation digital display interface connectivity. To connect legacy gear to the new computers, consumers will need a variety of converter options.

“The ANX9832 positions Analogix Semiconductor well for the market’s transition to DisplayPort by helping consumers get the longest life from their legacy gear,” says Dr. Kewei Yang, Chairman and CEO of Analogix Semiconductor. ”Analogix is committed to providing end-to-end interface connectivity for all multi-media devices and helping the device makers interoperate with each other.”

The ANX9832 generates high-resolution images with a maximum pixel rate of up to 178 MHz and, through its proprietary design techniques; power consumption is significantly reduced, enabling the ANX9832 to fit into very small form-factor devices.

The ANX9832 provides internally regulated 5V pin output to supply power for DDC lines in the VGA connector. This feature eliminates the need for an external regulator to provide 5V outlet. It also is capable of receiving data over long and low quality DisplayPort cable with its award-winning WideEye™ SerDes receiver technology.

The ANX9832 supports the RGB color format with up to 8 bits per color and 24 bits per pixel support. It also supports extended display identification data (EDID) and the monitor control command set standard (MCCS). In addition, it offers 8KV ESD protection, while reducing the bill of materials cost.

“Analogix Semiconductor’s leadership role in providing DisplayPort transmitters and receivers is behind its commitment to the DisplayPort to VGA converter market,” says Soumendra Mohanty, Senior Director of Marketing at Analogix Semiconductor. “ANX9832, the DisplayPort to VGA converter, provides numerous opportunities for consumer electronics manufacturers to include low cost, low-power internal interconnectivity in flat-panel displays with DisplayPort receptacle.”

The ANX9832, available immediately for sampling, complies with VESA DisplayPort 1.1a standards and supports spread spectrum clocking. The product is available in a 48-pin QFN package, and Analogix is simplifying the development efforts for dongle, flat-panel televisions, multimedia projectors and home theater systems manufacturers by making system reference design available.
