The New, Ultra-Low-Power Analogix HDMI Transmitter Allows Users to Play High-Definition Content from a Portable Device on a Flat-TV or Projector – Without Draining the Battery

COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009

TAIPEI, Taiwan & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Analogix Semiconductor, a world leader in high performance digital media interface solutions, today released an ultra-low-power HDMI™ transmitter for portable media devices that reduces power demands to close to zero. Part of its CoolHD™ family of products, the low-cost Analogix ANX7150 significantly extends the battery life of media players, digital cameras, mobile phones and camcorders when transmitting high-definition video streams to flat-panel televisions and other displays.

The ANX7150 has been designed to further the mobile HD video revolution. As consumers increasingly store more high-quality video content on mobile devices, they will actively seek simple, low-power solutions to play that video on larger, high-resolution displays.

“The ANX7150 HDMI transmitter is a unique product that positions Analogix Semiconductor well for the era of high-definition video on portable and mobile devices,” says Dr. Kewei Yang, Chairman and CEO of Analogix Semiconductor. “Through world-wide patent-pending technology, the ANX7150 draws almost all the power it needs from the display itself and not from the battery in a handheld device. In that way, it is the first of its kind.”

By getting its power from the external display, the ANX7150 reduces the draw on the battery by up to 95 percent or more compared with products presently on the market.

Complies With HDMI Specifications

A single-chip solution, the ANX7150 complies with the HDMI 1.2 specifications and includes optional HDCP 1.1 high-definition digital-content-protection encryption. It supports pixel rates up to 165 megapixels/sec, and its flexible video input interface supports up to 24-bit RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4/4:2:2, 4:2:2 to 4:4:4 up-sample/down-sample, and YCbCr to RGB color space conversion.

The product, immediately available for sampling, incorporates advanced digital audio with 8-channel I2S support for Dolby™ Digital and DVD audio. It also provides S/PDIF protocol support for PCM, Dolby™ Digital, the DTS surround-sound format and digital audio transmission. Its audio interface permits programmable I2S channel mapping.

Significantly Extends Battery Life

“With the ultra-low-power ANX7150, we are excited to work with Mobile handset and Portable multi-media player makers to enable devices with CoolHD™ HDMI transmitter capabilities,” noted Soumendra Mohanty, Senior Director of Marketing at Analogix Semiconductor. “As device manufacturers continue to incorporate high-definition video playback into their portable products, consumers will be more willing and able to enjoy the content on their portable devices with the full impact of high-definition video playback on a large display. The product will significantly extend battery life.”

The ANX7150 comes with software controlled power management, and is offered in 48- and 64-pin QFN, 80-pin TQFP, and 81-pin BGA packaging options. Pricing is competitive and volume pricing is available.
