New unit to make multi-volume reference sets and non-fiction series available to publishing partners globally, starting in Asia

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--World Book, Inc. today announced the establishment of a new business to co-publish multi-volume reference sets and non-fiction topical series with partners around the globe. The new unit is known as Funk & Wagnalls Co-Editions and will leverage World Book’s vast archive of materials. World Book last year acquired certain assets and trademarks of Funk & Wagnalls, well known for its reference publications. The global venture will initially offer Asian publishers new opportunities to partner with World Book to publish high-quality reference products, in English and in translation into other languages, at economical costs.

“Funk & Wagnalls has tremendous name recognition and respect,” said Paul Kobasa, World Book’s Editor-in-Chief. “Supported by World Book’s position as a long-established provider of authoritative reference materials, the co-editions unit offers publishers in various markets around the world a tremendous opportunity to expand the titles they can offer to their customers quickly and with minimal development costs.”

World Book has a long and successful history of working with publishers in markets outside the United States. World Book content has earned a reputation for accuracy and understandability. The Funk & Wagnalls Co-Editions venture applies World Book’s business and editorial expertise to developing a wide selection of multi- and single-volume reference works and topical series, and stand-alone titles that meet partners’ individual business strategies and local product needs. The content range available for joint development includes life sciences, physical sciences, history, geography, early academic and social skills, and general reference for a variety of reading levels.
