Company Continues Aggressive Expansion into New Markets and Development of New Products

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Ooyala, a leading provider of end-to-end video platform applications and services announced record revenue growth as it expands its business into new markets in Europe, Japan, Latin America and APAC. The company saw double-digit quarter-over-quarter revenue growth in the period between January 1st and March 31st. Revenue was up more than 300% from the same period last year.

Customers outside the United States contributed over 30% of the revenue growth in Q1. Revenue from existing customers grew by 20% primarily driven by increased usage of live streaming, new video implementations and organic growth in total viewers. The total number of hours served across all partners was up by 18% from Q4 2009 to Q1 2010, and over 500% from the same period in 2009.

"We are very pleased with the company's performance in Q1, yet we're hardly satisfied," stated Jay Fulcher, President and CEO of Ooyala. "This year we will be significantly expanding both our technology and value proposition, as well as our support capabilities globally, allowing us to set the standard for high quality video delivery for media businesses and web marketers. In Q1 alone, we more than doubled our staff that are focused on signing and supporting new customers in new markets."

Video analytics, monetization and secure syndication to the three screens will continue to be the main focus for Ooyala throughout the remainder of the year.

Ooyala recently hired representatives in France, Spain and Portugal and will be officially launching businesses there in Q2. Additionally, Ooyala and its partners are signing customers in Japan, Latin America, South America and Australia. Some of the customers signed in Q1 include the UFL (United Football League), Yelp, Caracol Broadcast Channel, Hearst, LiveStrong Foundation, Telegraph Media Group, Esurance, Rowdy.com, Business Insider, GigaOm, StrikeForce, Deca TV and General Mills.

Additional highlights for Q1 included:

  • Localization of the video platform into Japanese
  • Signed reseller relationship with NTT's SmartConnect in Japan
  • Signed reseller relationship with H2O media to resell video platforms in the Middle East
  • Developed and released TV Everywhere video platform with Paywall authentication
