HONG KONG--()--Against a backdrop of increasing levels of entrepreneurship in Hong Kong, Compass Offices - the fastest growing serviced office provider in APAC - has launched its new U-Desk service. The new service allows users to rent desk space in Compass Offices’ prime locations with no contract and no hassle.A great complement to an already impressive suite of existing business centre products and services, U-Desk offers independent professionals, big and small businesses, startups, remote teams, students, tourists and other mobile professionals the unique opportunity to obtain virtually everything they need to stay up and running and to make their businesses succeed.

According to recent research, “Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Hong Kong and Shenzhen Report 2016- 17” , 9.44 per cent of Hong Kong adults were engaged in some kind of entrepreneurial activity in 2016, up from 3.64 per cent in 2009. The government’s report on casual employment in 2010 also noted that there were over 65,000 casual employees in Hong Kong that were employed on a day-to-day basis. This number continues to increase with the popularity of gig economy.

“As Hong Kong embraces its place as a technology hub in Asia Pacific, businesses are being forced to rethink about the future of work. There is now a major shift in attitudes towards how to run a business,” said Andrew Chung, CEO of Compass Offices. “Having a fixed office space is no longer a prerequisite for running a business."

A recent survey by Compass Offices, where 1,200 respondents across seven countries in APAC were surveyed, suggested that for 52 per cent of workers in Hong Kong, ‘Work Environment’ was an important part of their job.

“Our survey also indicates that in 2017, the uncertainty of the world economy is still a concern for close to 40 percent of businesses in Hong Kong. These trends emphasize the importance of mobility, flexibility, and connectivity in running a business. To us, there is no better time to launch U-Desk, which lets anyone work from our professional offices,” said Chung.

The pay-as-you-go service saves workers and their employers an estimated 90% in costs, compared to co-working space memberships. U-Deskers will pay just $100 a day to use a desk in one of Compass Offices’ centres with no memberships, no commitments, and no contracts. For their $100, clients can get a desk in a shared office from 9 AM to 6 PM, work without being distracted and get free Wi-Fi, tea, coffee, and water.
