HONG KONG--()--G18+, a group of professional surveyors and planners who formed a coalition to contest seats on the Election Committee for Hong Kong’s next chief executive, today launched its campaign at the G18+ 123 Rally in Central, Hong Kong.

Competing for the Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape sector, G18+ comprises 20 industry veterans and is the biggest group in the subsector.

In a speech at Exchange Square in front of a large crowd of architects, planners, landscaped architects and surveyors, Convenor of G18+ Sr Chun-kong LAU laid out various challenges facing the city and detailed the qualities that the next Hong Kong leader should have.

“Today, with your support and the support of many other professionals in the city, we continue our concerted campaign to help improve Hong Kong economically, technologically, socially and environmentally,” Mr LAU said. “As the biggest group contesting in the Subsector Elections, G18+ is devoted to making the city an even better place to live, work and play by contributing our professional expertise.”

In his remarks, Mr LAU explained that the group would demand the Chief Executive candidates to demonstrate a commitment to build up trust and consensus, and make Hong Kong a better place to live.

“G18+ prefers to take a rational approach. We would encourage the Chief Executive candidates to seek views and support from stakeholders before making decisions,” Mr LAU added. “The dialogue has to be two way, and the interests of the community should be prioritised wherever possible. Together we can build an even more liveable and inclusive society by lending our professionalism. We call upon our colleagues in the functional constituency to vote for G18+.”

Mr Victor SO Hing-woh, JP has lent his support to the group by speaking at the G18+ 123 Rally. “I endorse G18+ because I believe in their platform and the practical approach to create a sustainable future for Hong Kong that encompasses balanced economic, social, environmental, cultural and financial factors.
