Green Council to Host Its First Green Run at the 4th Annual Hong Kong Green Day Kick-off Ceremony

HONG KONG--()--Green Council, a non-profit Hong Kong environmental organization, announces today that its 4thHong Kong Green Day kick-off ceremony will take place on Sunday, 5 June 2016, at Hong Kong Science Park.

This year, Green Council is hosting its first ever Green Run at the kick-off ceremony to encourage the community’s participation in environmental protection. Numerous environmental initiatives will follow throughout June, including the Green Cook Cooking Competition and Hong Kong Green Day Finale cum Green Video Competition at Ocean Park. Through participation in the initiatives, Hong Kong citizens will have a better understanding of living green and enhanced interest in environmental protection.

The Green Run competition includes a 10km race that is divided into men’s and women’s public and corporate categories, and a 3km race for public, students and families. The race will take place on Sunday morning 5 June at Hong Kong Science Park, and the route runs from Pak Shek Kok promenade to Tai Po Lookout Tower. Participants are encouraged to dress creatively to show their commitment to environmental protection. They are encouraged to wear green t-shirts supplied by Green Council, or dress in green and wear green accessories and commemorative pins to promote the Go Green, Act Green campaign.

The Hong Kong Green Day kick-off ceremony will follow the Green Run and feature Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, MH, JP, Secretary for Development as the officiating guest. Additional government officers, sponsors and supporting organisations will be invited. In addition to a Green Run awards presentation, there will be music and entertainment performances, games, and environment educational opportunities available before 1pm. Hong Kong Green Day aims to enhance the public awareness of environmental protection and promote the green image of Hong Kong.

*United Nations launched World Environment Day in 1972 (5 June). To echo the sentiment of World Environment Day, Green Council launched “Hong Kong Green Day” (5 June) in 2013, and it has become an annual green event in Hong Kong that encourages awareness and positive action for the environment.
