ST. PAUL, Minn.--()--Smiths Medical, a leading global medical device manufacturer, today announced that the Vascular Access business will host three major events in the next two months.

They are: an Exhibitor Theater at the 2015 Infusion Nursing Society (INS) annual conference on May 19th in Louisville, KY; a Bronze Satellite Symposium at the World Congress of Vascular Access (WoCoVA) Special Event on May 29th in Hong Kong; and a Satellite Symposium at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) on June 28th in Nashville, TN.

Marcia Ryder, PhD, MS, RN will be the featured presenter for each of these events. Dr. Ryder will present “Rethinking the risk of blood peripheral IV blood exposure and catheter-related bloodstream infection: Engineering practices and products.”

It will include discussions around current peripheral IV catheter (PIVC) problems and pathogenesis, current nursing guidelines, and the results of independent biofilm research studies conducted at The Center for Biofilm Engineering, Montana State University - Bozeman, MT.

The goals of this session are for clinicians to reassess the risk of peripheral intravenous catheter blood stream infections, to consider new research findings comparing biofilm formation in blood control peripheral intravenous catheters, and to provide an interactive component for practitioners to identify disparities in current prevention practices.
