NEW YORK -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Russell Reynolds Associates today announced the appointment of Jack “Rusty” O’Kelley III to globally lead its expanded Board Effectiveness Practice within the firm’s CEO and Board Advisory Services. The Board Effectiveness Practice provides consulting services world-wide to Boards on improving areas such as board culture, director effectiveness and engagement, board and committee processes and structure, and aligning board composition to the corporate strategy.

On the heels of this appointment, Russell Reynolds Associates also launched its new white paper titled “Insights from Conversations with U.S. Banking Regulators: Implications for Bank Directors,” authored by Rusty O’Kelley. The paper examines increased expectations for governance responsibilities and level of board engagement facing Bank Directors today, and outlines steps bank boards need to take to address future challenges. It highlights data gathered from interviews conducted with The Federal Reserve Board, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and New York State Department of Financial Services.

“Rusty's expertise and experience helps our clients raise the bar on board effectiveness, corporate governance and CEO succession planning,” said Clarke Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Russell Reynolds Associates. “Boards are under mounting pressure to deliver beyond compliance oversight. There is greater emphasis on strategic planning and formulating an effective board culture. Rusty positions us well to meet evolving client needs.”

Prior to joining Russell Reynolds Associates last year, O’Kelley managed the Leadership Consulting Practice for the Americas for an executive search and leadership consulting firm. He has led board effectiveness and assessment engagements for Fortune 500 boards across a variety of industries. O’Kelley also designed and managed CEO succession planning for Fortune 500 companies, private equity funds, and hedge funds. Before that, he was with Katzenbach Partners, a leading organizational and strategy consulting firm, where he developed and led the firm’s CEO succession planning and transition practice. O’Kelley began his career as a corporate lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell focusing on bank mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation and corporate governance.

O’Kelley has served as a Non-Executive Director for Seventy-Fifth Avenue Investments and Trak Chicago 1 Investments, as well as on the boards of Hampton University, New Yorkers for Children and the Yale Law School Fund. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Hampton University and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
