The SD755 Inertial Sensor - One of the Year's Most Innovative Products

GRAZ, Austria--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Chipworks, a specialist in analyzing electronic and semiconductor systems, has selected the SD755 inertial sensor from SensorDynamics as one of the year's three most innovative MEMS products.

The SD755 inertial sensor from SensorDynamics, manufacturer and supplier of micro and wireless sensor semiconductor products, is the first MEMS (micro-electromechanical system) product combining a gyroscope and accelerometer on a single chip. The patented encapsulation technology used for SD755 is a major breakthrough which allows a high level of integration within inertial sensors. This technology forms the basis of the 6 Degree of Freedom Inertial Measurement Unit single MEMS chip solution (6DoF IMU) which is in high demand by the marketplace.

Chipworks recognized the innovation behind SD755, and thus chose it as one of the three most outstanding MEMS products of 2009, along with three-axis accelerometer sensors from Analog Devices and STMicroelectronics.

SD755 is an ideal solution for dynamic stability control applications in the automobile industry. It continuously monitors the steering and vehicle direction, and prevents skidding by applying the brakes to individual wheels if there is a difference. Its exceptional integrated fail-safe functionality makes SD755 suitable for all safety-critical applications in automobiles and industry as a whole. It is also characterized by mechanical robustness, a wide range of operating temperatures, and high long-term stability. The two sensors of SD755 share a common SPI interface, simplifying further signal processing, reducing time to market and overall system costs.

"We're the first supplier offering robust integrated gyro and accelerometer products including fail-safe functionalities. That is breakthrough technology." commented SensorDynamics CEO Hubertus Christ.
