SHANGHAI--()--Harvard Business School Executive Education and Publishing Chair Das Narayandas will present Global Perspectives on Executive Development, showcasing recent findings on executive development in the global marketplace, to a group of alumni and clients at the Harvard Center Shanghai on 16 July 2014.

Today’s global business environment is “operating on steroids,” according to Professor Narayandas, fueled by new technology, market uncertainty, increasingly informed consumers, rapid commoditization and hyper-competitiveness. To keep up with this increasing complexity, both business leaders and employees must be continually evolving professionally in order to stay competitive. Executives must now make a fundamental shift from being reactive to being proactive in thinking about talent development in order to thrive.

“A company’s most precious asset is its human capital,” said Professor Narayandas. “Particularly as the nature of today’s economy becomes more frantic and complex, business leaders need to understand that the better you nurture your talent, the better their ability to change and adapt. That’s what you do when you invest in people. Once you realize you want people to work smarter and not harder, it makes sense to give them the tools to do that.”

In his presentation, Professor Narayandas, the James J. Hill Professor of Business Administration, Senior Associate Dean and Chair of Executive Education and Publishing, will focus on the trends impacting leadership training today, ranging from constraints on internal program development and support to external pressures like government-mandated spending on education and training. Professor Narayandas will also highlight the range of executive development options that business leaders need a keen awareness of in order to build successful, integrated global enterprises.

“Learning is a lifelong experience, not an intervention,” said Professor Narayandas. “It’s important for executives to take time off to reflect on their approach and business perspectives in order to nurture that lifelong learning experience. This presentation explores why that’s important and offers research and insights on what works best for companies and individuals based on their particular needs and business regions.”

In addition to the complimentary Global Perspectives on Executive Development event, Professor Narayandas will also be teaching Harvard Business School’s Growing and Leading Professional Service Firm - China executive education program, taking place at the Harvard Center Shanghai from 13–18 July 2014.

Global Perspectives on Executive Development will be followed by a networking reception hosted by HBS Executive Education and Harvard Business Publishing.
