SYDNEY--()--Under embargo until 23.59 Monday 24th March

Social media management agency, Emoderation (www.emoderation.com), launches in Australia and Asia Pacific today (25 March 2014), opening regional headquarters in Sydney. Heading up Emoderation in the region is Fiona Berry (H&T and Ogilvy) who has been appointed Emoderation’s Business Development Director, Australia and APAC.

“Australia and Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region in the world in terms of social media use,” says Emoderation’s CEO Tamara Littleton. “Australia’s trade relationship with Asia, and the fantastic creativity coming out of Australia, means it makes sense for us to have our regional hub office here.”

Emoderation already has 12 team members in Australia and New Zealand, and 21 people across Asia Pacific. They are part of a global team of more than 300 people, who run 24/7 social media campaigns for Emoderation clients in more than 50 languages, for more than 150 brands and agencies. The Sydney office will be a regional ‘hub’ for the company, which already has offices in London, Los Angeles and New York.

2013 saw a high-profile debate between the IAB, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA), over whether user generated content on a branded social network page constitutes advertising. A ruling in 2012 by the ASA stated that brands are responsible for content posted on their Facebook pages, and therefore are subject to standards set by the AANA; a ruling rejected in 2013 by the IAB, which set out its own best practice guidelines to social media management in July 2013.

“There’s a real need for a specialist social media management agency in Australia to help brands navigate the issues around user generated content,” says Fiona Berry, Emoderation’s newly-appointed Business Development Director, Australia and APAC. “Australia is starting to follow the US and UK in using specialists to manage social media so that the agencies can focus on strategy and creativity.”
