CEATEC JAPAN 2009

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OKI Electric Industry (TOKYO:6703) has been offering "Web Sensing," an environment information collection service, to the Japanese market since September 17, 2009. The service measures and collects environment information from the office (i.e., temperature, humidity and electric energy usage) with sensor networks, and sorts the data on a server via Internet. By gathering electric energy usage and CO2 emission data and viewing the results in a simple manner, users can easily understand the environmental impact they cause, and can help reduce wasteful energy use and electricity costs. OKI Network Integration (OKINET), an OKI Group company in charge of network integration for triple play (convergence of voice, video and data), is charged with offering this service to enterprise customers.

"The OKI Group is working to achieve a company-wide network-type environmental management system, to further the creation of environmentally friendly products and businesses. This new service is based on OKINET’s 'EcOnestop™' concept to utilize environmental information in the office, and we believe by visualizing the data, it raises environmental awareness for employees, which can help reduce CO2," said Hisao Suzuki, Senior Vice President at OKI, responsible for OKI's CSR. "We will continue to offer environmentally-friendly solutions and contribute to our customers’ environmental strategies."

For this service, several devices are placed in the office to measure electric energy usage, humidity, temperature, etc., and via sensor networks, the data is measured and collected in a minimum of every ten minutes. The collected data is stored on the server, which then can produce graphs and CSVs. By installing this service, users can visualize their environmental information which helps them reduce wasteful energy usage and electricity costs. In addition, employees will become more familiar with such data which raises awareness and improve CSR.
